About the Fund
The Mark Umbreit Restorative Justice Internship Fund provides students with financial assistance and a one-academic year placement for graduate students interested in or currently working within the areas of restorative justice, criminology, social work, or a related area. The fund provides students up to $1,500 through the Center for Restorative Justice and Peacemaking (CRJP). This fellowship honors the legacy of Dr. Mark Umbreit, CRJP’s founder and a key figure in the restorative justice movement. Visit this page to learn more about the work of Dr. Mark Umbreit.
Internship duties
- Communications with Community Stakeholders
- Collaboration with Partner Restorative Justice Organizations
- Coordinate online and in-person Restorative Justice Trainings for Practitioners and Organizations
- Assist with Research Projects
- Conduct Historical Research Projects through CRJP and UMD’s archive
In coordination with CRJP’s director and team, the intern position will assist in various other duties within CRJP and complete an independent project(s).
Application Requirements & How to Apply
Students interested in applying for the Mark Umbreit Restorative Justice Internship Fund will commit to a one-academic year placement with the CRJP and register for a total of 6 credits (3 credits in Fall Semester and 3 credits in Spring Semester). Additional requirements include:
- Be a registered graduate student at the University of Minnesota.
- Be a student enrolled in a program within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences or the College of Education & Human Service Professions.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

There are currently no graduate internship positions for Academic Year 2023-2024.
